Shelduck Feather, 9th April 2020 © Simon Stirrup
'.... attached is an
image of a Shelduck feather found in our garden on 9th April.
It was part of a clump of about 10 feathers all with the quill snapped /
bitten-off at the base. I haven’t seen a Shelduck near the village for
many years so something of a mystery as to how these feathers arrived.' SS

Bitten feathers indicate a mammalian predator/scavenger, most likely a fox. But how it came across the Shelduck is another matter! Perhaps the bird was taken by a peregrine or collided with power lines?
