Avocet, Dunkirk, 23rd June 2014 © Tony Martin
'We
don't normally get a post-breeding avocet flock at Dunkirk, but for some reason
one has been building up over the past 2 weeks. Fifty adults were present this
morning. This photo shows 44 adult avocets and one of this year's fledged
juveniles (right-most bird). The flock includes colour-ring M8, which some
people may remember from 2013, when the youngster was photographed being fed by
oystercatchers. That bird was subsequently seen at an oystercatcher roost at
Snettisham, but has now apparently decided that it is an avocet after all!' TM
