Willow Warbler

Male Willow Warbler, Fowlmere RSPB, 22nd May 2007, © James Hanlon. This is a photo of the 'mixed singer' that has been discussed recently on the Cambirds Yahoo group. It is structurally a Willow Warbler but often includes a few 'Chiff' notes in its Willow Warbler song. (JL).

Semipalmated Sandpiper, Over Fen,19th May 2007, © Jim Lawrence. This is the first ever Semipalmated Sandpiper recorded in Cambridgeshire. Congratulations to Richard Patient and Richard Thomas for resolving the identity. In these very distant and therefore highly magnified images the bird appears far warmer than it actually was, due to the evening sunlight. To my eye, in the field, the overall plumage tone was a cold grey with the only rufous feathering apparent in the ear coverts and possibly the crown. (JL).
