Panda Falcon?

Mystery Falcon, Fowlmere RSPB, May 10th 2008 © Geoff Harries. Doug Radford reports this strange looking raptor - "Panda Falcon" that was photographed from Reedbed Hide at Fowlmere RSPB on May 10th. It apparently spooked the ducks on the mere, so might be a large bird. It is possibly an escaped falconer's hybrid though it does appear free of jesses. [Or maybe it is just a Hobby (RGN)]. (JL).

From these photos it looks exactly like a foreshortened hobby, with a very well-marked malar stripe. I'm sure no hybrid falcon that is being produced at the moment looks anything like this?

Agreed, Looks good for an adult Hobby with a pale forecrown.JL.

Looks like a Hobby to me. The lack of red trousers would suggest a first-summer bird rather than adult.
