'These
great photos are ample reward for all the time and effort my volunteers put in
to managing the reserve for the benefit of wildlife and visitors. This bittern
was using an area of shallow water by the mere that we maintain precisely for
this reason, although it is more often inhabited by water rails, snipe, and
teal than a bittern!' Doug
