I understand that the female is urging the male to feed her up to compensate for time spent incubating when she cannot feed or to help develop the eggs

A very interesting couple of hours or so late afternoon at a puddle on the access road with various species coming in to drink and bathe, despite the heavy traffic passing (and often speeding). These two images are of different birds showing plumage variation.

'Thought you might be interested in the attached pics of kite wing-tagging in the west of the county today. Fabulous birds, and all very good weights (2 female, one male; three is a good brood size). The birds have white tags on each wing, marked with X1, X2 or X3 in black on the top of the wing. Interesting new prey items at the nest included Great Spotted Woodpecker and Song Thrush!' RB

'I managed to drag myself out of bed early last Saturday morning and saw the attached. The Yellow Wagtails clearly had a nest in the corn with young in, as they were back and fore with food.' AG

'Delighted to find this today, spent a good hour watching it flit up and down doing what it says on the tin, it was late evening and light was going fast. Will try over weekend for better shots subject to finding it again but it does seem as though its feeding. Private garden Fowlmere.' KG
