Sparrowhawk
Male Sparrowhawk, Milton Road, Cambridge, 30th March 2008, © Rachel Aucott
I took it with a 28-55mil lens on Sunday 30th March through the doors of my conservatory, which tells you how close it was to the house. I live just off Milton Rd, just before you get to Arbury Rd which tells you that I don't live in rural location. I spent 45 minutes watching the sparrowhawk devour the dove before it flew taking the carcass with it and leaving behind a load feathers, the intestines and the craw.

Apart from the usual Pied Wagtails, this was the only photographable bird showing either side of the dam during a 2 hour visit.
Firecrest

David Heath made this delightful find exactly 4 years to the day after his first Firecrest at Milton Country Park. Son Jonothan can be proud of managing to photograph a very elusive and quick-moving bird.

The sighting in their garden was first reported 22nd March but the natural elusiveness of the species prevented an earlier photographic record.

The weather on Sunday morning gave me the opportunity to experiment with some shots in the snowstorm. Unfortunately, only common birds braved the cold.

Despite being pinioned, they still make a striking photo.
